Both of us at Silverstone in the wet in 2001 (Nick 64, Andrew 66) a larger version of this image can be found in the 2001 archive (link on Misc. page) NOTE: What is written below is now out of date (the team now only has one rider), but gives you the team history/background. Miers race team currently consists of two riders, namely Andrew Miers and Nicholas Bailey. I am now entering my 4th season of racing. The boys met at a 'Bikers for Business trackday' in September 2000. It was a chance meeting. Nick had parked his road going R6 next to Andrews road going SP1, whilst tapeing all their bikes glass up ready for the tracktime ahead, they admired each others bikes and got chatting. The trackday was open pitlane and the boys found that they were roughly of the same ability and hence ended up lapping together, changing the lead all the time, what a hoot. The day continued like this and e-mail addresses were exchanged so the new found trackday buddies could continue to talk biker BS to each other! After all the adrenaline had subsided and the boys were back to work, the following was agreed 'Riding on the road seems futile now, we ought to start racing'. Andrew was in the fortunate position of owning a company (LJAMiers) and therefore could help sponsor the team. The boys met up and agreed on what they intended to do. Nick sold his beloved road R6 and offered this as his financial input to the team. Andrew as the main sponsor took team ownership and purchased two race prepped R6s and all the gubbins needed to go racing. The boys joined the 'British Motorcycle Racing Club' (BEMSEE) as it seemed like the largest and most well known amateur racing club. They held events all round the UK and graced prestigious tracks such as Brands Hatch and Silverstone. All this preparation was done over the winter of 2000 and the boys were ready to compete in the 2001 BEMSEE Rookie600 championship! Due to work commitments Nick couldn't make the first two rounds that were held at Lydden, he was gutted! However Andrew could make it and was about to have the most overwhelming experience of his life .... A mixture of fear, excitement, anticipation and sheer testosterone ..... Here the story really began ..... Take a peek at the 2001 archives (link on Misc. page) to see how the year actually panned out!
