Snetterton Race Report 7th&8th July 2001 Andrew got into Rookie600 and Supersport600, I got into
Rookie600 and 1300 Shooout?? 1300 shootout meant that I was against any bike up
to 1300cc with unlimited tuning, slics allowed etc I believe, oh fu***!!! First Rookie race start 11th, end 7th. My best lap 1:16.45
Andrew 15th best lap 1:18.91 First 1300 start 36th, end 17th had a battle with a bloke
on a Kawasaki for the last 3 laps of the race, I nailed him on the brakes and
round the corners, only to get annihilated (and I mean annihilated!) down the
straights. It was either a v-v-hot 7R or a v-hot 9R. 2nd rookie race, it got red flagged 2 laps in.
Restart was for a 5 lap race. Although I had been sharp on the brakes there before, I got
it on the rumples coming into the chicane (Russel Bend), over cooked it on the
brakes and the bike wouldn't settle or turn in, so I decided to go straight on,
crossed the grass, cross at the back end of the chicane then back onto the grass
the other side, before I could bring the bike to a halt, kept it upright, but
had lost maybe 15 places by the time I rejoined. Spent the next lap taking
it easy as I now had sh** all over the tyres, had someone try and slip up my
inside at Riches and I thought 'fu** you' and slammed the door big time!' after
that, I started to get my head down again. I had had enough of being
bullied at every turn by this point, and decided to have a go myself for a
change, I chose the chicane, only the geezer slammed the door and smacked into
me, consequently I ended up biting turf ;0( Bike was ok, just an engine casing, peg and a bit of
ductape needed to patch it up. I was ok, except damaged ego, the odd ache
here and there and bad bruising on my left hand between my thumb and index
figure, it was swollen such that I found it hard to move my index figure by
much. Didn’t think it was broken mind as I could flex it before it
swelled up. I was gutted as I would miss my next race and that I did it
right in front of Andrew's wife, who was spectating and nearly fainted thinking
it was Andrew who had crashed. Supposedly when she saw the person get up and run
away she realised it couldn't have been Andrew as he never runs anywhere!!! ;0) |
